I dunno, Ask Mike.
Maybe the song " I was wrong " might help you understand Mike Ness a little better.
I have a live version mp3 of the regretful bluesy song prison bound. In prison bound Mike seems a bit sad about being prison bound "oohh I'm prison bound done crime too many times..."
On the other hand before the song starts he brags about how he use to warm up viz. get drunk before the show in the parking lot. Ok drinking is fine but looking back fondly of when you were drunk is stupid - you should look back and reget the damage- in public the least Mike should do is say - I was a fool back tehn I would of sung better sober escaping reality through an alcohol haze was a looser cop out... No instead he just tells his old days with great fondness and no regret (God bless his poor liver)
Then he goes on to brag upon his fights- He claims there was no way he could avoid fighting with others as he looked like a punk rock guy and therefore police, football teams, and construction workers forced him to fight- guess what this is almost always not true. Perhaps what he should have said is that he would not back down from a fight- basically my guess is he must have strut around and been one of those uncompromising idiots who will not let themselves be insulted and will never work to deescalate any conflict - hey these people are made for each other, and they love pride - the Army and Marines is full of them it's a fine way to be in combat the problem is unrelenting pride tends to sours things packed in a berthing area... not that I know as I'm inhuman and never been on an LPD trip.
So my message to Mike is to say you are sorry - and tell kids it is ok to back down - a brave creature like myself protects the little ones and fights to save these unsullied gems... It is the idiot dwarves who fight among themselves out of pride and claim they were forced to fight.

Mmmm yeah and I forgot to add but I do Like Mike's songs - it's just that he seems to be a dangerous and unkind fellow - I mean does he want me to believe that men would just come up and corner him and demand to fight just because he looked like a punk rock freak. Anyhow I like to talk with him about it but my guess is he had some abuse problems... Anyway off topic but here is my pity for all those small kids washed out to sea - ahh you think a huge Dragon rolled over at the bottom of the ocean or something- what a wave aye!

mmm yo are right me against the world - well maybe he does regret a bit- still he should try to be a bit more prudent when in concert I mean there is small kids who think his word is the law of their lives - not me as I am in touch with the real world - hey getin smackeg in the mouth is no fun I tell you - fighting is almost always dumb and best avoided.

But back then ? Not so much.
haha! If you would have told me that 20 years ago,I would have smacked you in the mouth.
Why ?
Cuz " I was wrong "
Back in the early 80's it was quite common for someone to jump out of a car and start a fight because you had short hair and wore BDU type clothes (Short hair means a about 1 inch long, not even a mohawk, almost a longhair in these days)
My typical attire back in those days way black jeans or "bondage pants", maybe a jeans jacket with a few patches and alot of writing on it (leather was too expensive then)a choke chain around my neck (ala Sid Vicious), short hair with bleached ends. All thing that are quite common now, even worn to school. I had all sorts of names yelled at me from passing cars, bottle and punches thrown at me and so-called "Normal" friends avoid me.
Hell today I'd look normal
anyway Smaug, were you around in those days?Judging from your words u must have been...Man if u step out and try to avoid any fight that`s way fucked up.It was like that and that`s the end of the story....he can`t go up on stage and say "yeah...we were really picking up some great flowers back in the day"....

i remember many a fight due to the way i looked walking down the street...
i remember the exploited in huntington park ( not a good place for a punk rock show back then and not even today) the show was called early sending a bunch of punks into a dominatly colored neighborhood thanx to the police aka johnny(law)
for ruining a great show.
so now my kids take up the mantle of the "look" and i look "normal" but heart and mind still are far from the "normal" way thinking and i suyre do not act my 37 years.
hell i do not wannna grow up... all the way.
i like mikes banter.
at times i feel as if i'm in group thearpy...
It isn't Mike's fault if a bunch of lemmings take his word like the gospel.
